SECOND BATCH OF CYBERSECURITY PLAYERS LICENCED

Ninety-four more cybersecurity players have received licenses and accreditation from the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) as part of efforts to align Ghana's cybersecurity standards with global benchmarks through regularisation.

This forms the second batch of qualified cybersecurity industry players to be officially licensed and accredited which brings the total number to 145.

In the presentation ceremony held in Accra on Thursday, September 12, 2024, 18 Cybersecurity Service Providers (CSPs), 7 Cybersecurity Establishments (CEs), and 69 Cybersecurity Professionals (CPs) were given their licenses and accreditations.

Addressing the recipients, the Director-General of the CSA, Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako, in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Lead for the National Computer Emergency Response Team at the CSA, Mr. Stephen Cudjoe-Seshie, reminded the recipients of the responsibility recognition bestows on them.

“As we congratulate all recipients today, we wish to reiterate that the issuance of these licenses and certificates of accreditation places on you a responsibility not to make any false representation in the provision of the respective services we have been licensed and accredited to provide. Licensees must observe utmost good faith towards clients while complying with Act 1038 and all applicable laws, including confidentiality and data protection obligations” he said.

He cautioned all CSPs, CEs, and CPs providing cybersecurity services without a license or accreditation that their actions violated the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) stressing that “all defaulting institutions and individuals would face the appropriate sanctions, including administrative penalties and criminal prosecutions where applicable”.

While urging other CSPs, CEs, and CPs who were at various stages of the licensing and accreditation process to work hard to meet all the requirements, Dr. Antwi-Boasiako intimated that the CSA, in collaboration with the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) and other relevant stakeholders, were working to ensure compliance with the guidelines pursuant to the Cybersecurity Act.

Congratulating the recipients, a member of the CSA governing board, Mrs. Adelaide Benneh-Prempeh, urged them to conduct themselves with professionalism and integrity.

“As pacesetters of this journey of a structured industry, I urge you all to discharge your duties with utmost professionalism and integrity, as many will follow in your footsteps,” she said.

Some of the recipients expressed gratitude to the CSA and pledged to uphold a higher standard of professionalism and diligence in delivering their services to safeguard the digital landscape.

It would be recalled that the CSA on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, issued the first batch of licenses and accreditation to a total of 51 CSPs, CEs, and CPs.

This made Ghana the first country in Africa and the second globally, following Singapore, to implement a comprehensive regulatory framework for CSPs, CEs, and CPs.
