President Mahama opens NCSAM 2025
The President, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, officially opened the 2025 edition of NCSAM 2025, and expressed the government's commitment to further advancing Ghana's cybersecurity readiness through awareness creation.
Held under the theme, "Building a Safe, Informed and Accountable Digital Space”, the president stated that “under my administration, cybersecurity is not being treated as a secondary issue but is at the core of our national development strategy”.
He shared the government’s plans to launch a $50 million FinTech Growth Fund to support indigenous startups and fuel Ghana’s digital finance, with a focus on Ghanaian innovators. He added that the One Million Coders Programme, the Digital Jobs Initiative, and the 24-hour Economy were flagship initiatives aimed at digital transformation and cybersecurity in Ghana.
The President pledged that Ghana would step up collaboration with international partners to ensure both citizens and foreigners involved in romance scams and other forms of cybercrime faced the full rigours of the law.
“Recently, we’ve been collaborating with our international partners, and so we’ll continue to collaborate with all our global partners. Anybody involved in romance scams, whether you are a foreigner or a Ghanaian citizen, we will hand you over to be tried and punished accordingly,” he said.
Adding his voice, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations. Mr Samuel Nartey George, said the CSA, working with the Ghana Police, had arrested and detained 150 cybercrime suspects this year alone, adding that work was currently ongoing with the Attorney-General’s Department and the Ministry of Justice to establish specialised courts to handle cybercrime cases.
“To ensure swift prosecution, we’re working closely with the Office of the Attorney-General and the Ministry of Justice to establish a specialised court to handle cybercrime issues,” he said.
On the sidelines of the launch, President Mahama inaugurated the reconstituted members of the Joint Cybersecurity Committee of the CSA in accordance with section 13(4) of Act 1038, made up of representatives from public sector institutions tasked to support the implementation of coordinated cybersecurity measures in the country.
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak; the acting Director-General of the CSA, Mr. Divine Selase Agbeti; and the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service, COP. Lydia Yaako Donkor.
