CSA PARTNERS TOR TO ENHANCE CYBER HYGIENE AWARENESS

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA), in collaboration with the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), has organised cyber hygiene sensitisation sessions for the staff at the TOR to enhance their knowledge in detecting and preventing cyberattacks.

The two-day capacity-building sessions were attended by managers, principal officers, and members of management.

The Director for Capacity Building and Awareness Creation at the CSA, Mr. Alexander Oppong, in his opening remarks, underscored the importance of the training in protecting TOR from potential cyber threats.

“Systems are about people, processes, and technology. While technology plays a role in cybersecurity, the first line of defence is always the people. Therefore, education and awareness creation are key,” he noted.

Officials of the CSA, Ms. Mary Ama Bawa, Ms. Cynthia Maku Dassinor, and Mr. Herald Nelson Darko, took turns to walk participants through key mobile device security threats, including phishing, malware attacks, malicious applications, and network vulnerabilities. They were further guided on how to identify and protect themselves against such threats.

The team shared best practices to secure personal and institutional devices such as enabling multi-factor authentication, using data encryption, and regularly updating device software.

Mr. Kwaku Sarpong Manu, from the CSA, schooled the management team of TOR on cybersecurity vulnerabilities that had the capacity to affect the institution. He also enlightened management on their role in its governance frameworks, risk management, and incident response planning.

The Managing Director of TOR, Mr. Edmond Kombat, expressed his appreciation to the CSA for the initiative to collaborate with his outfit and called for further engagements in the future.

Alhaji Mustapha Abubakar Batalim, the Deputy Managing Director of TOR, commended the CSA team for the insightful presentations and assured them of TOR’s commitment to future engagements.
