CSA holds maiden Cybersecurity Education Conference
The CSA held the maiden edition of the National Cybersecurity Education Conference (NaCEC) in Accra, bringing together stakeholders from academia, government, and industry to advance cybersecurity education in Ghana.
Organised in partnership with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Accra Technical University (ATU) under the theme “Empowering Higher Education for Cyber Resilience and Digital Rights,” the conference deepened national dialogue on strengthening institutional resilience to ensure that graduates were well equipped to address emerging digital threats and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda.
Addressing participants, the acting Director-General of the CSA, Mr. Divine Selase Agbeti stressed the need for Ghana to adopt a structured and sustainable approach to building a cyber-aware and resilient workforce. He called on the Ministry of Education to finalise the ICT in Education Policy to help strengthen Ghana’s digital education ecosystem.
Mr. Agbeti indicated that the CSA had submitted a draft Memorandum of Understanding to GTEC to formalise collaboration on a national cybersecurity competency and qualification framework. “Our partnership with GTEC seeks to create a structured learning pathway from basic cyber literacy to advanced professional certification. I, therefore, urge the Director General of GTEC to expedite its finalisation so that implementation can begin, ensuring cyber security becomes an integral and accredited part of higher education across Ghana”, he said.
The Director-General of GTEC, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, called for curriculum reforms to integrate cybersecurity across all disciplines to promote responsible digital behaviour and affirmed GTEC’s commitment to embedding digital competencies and cybersecurity awareness into quality assurance processes, programme accreditation, and institutional audits.
Panellists recommended ccontinuous faculty development, curriculum integration, industry partnership and early education as measures to promote cybersecurity education in Ghana.
The conference, expected to be an annual event, reaffirmed the CSA’s commitment to supporting cybersecurity education as a foundation for Ghana’s digital future.
